(reposted and still true)

I Feel Brand New

Along the cracked patio
the cement is algae green
and a Johnny jump up is poking its head,
small and bright from the asphalt.

Bent and taking glory
from small promises
of spring
this gardener
grips and pulls and piles
from the soggy earth
glorious weed’s rampant climb.

I can cut the wet logs
for a smoky fire come evening
where this hearth is heart.
I feel brand new,
this day is so familiar.

Where are the voices,
spilling play of children
darting in the tumble
that was this morning’s glory?
I am so full of the vibrancy
of their curled and blond youth
that I am watchful and on guard.

No, that time has passed me
and stained this place
where I stand in easing-back ink
that I see now is blurring
even as I read.

The lawn that is covered
with new leaf and berry
is as familiar as a lullaby
that rocks time into believing
it is safe from moving.

It is only this day
that is brand new.
Truth is as apparent
as my blue-veined hands.

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.
(ee cummings)

gawwwwd I love the way your poetic mind works

"No, that time has passed me
and stained this place"

"is as familiar as a lullaby
that rocks time into believing
it is safe from moving."

you are amazing ... truly ...

"Truth is as apparent
as my blue-veined hands."

and poetry runs thru those veins

Love is my religion...I believe in you.

In recent years I've read two authors - who have specialized in helping the two sexes better understand each others ways of thinking and communicating. If it were up to me - Martie would be required reading for Men, and all those who do not fully appreciate what it is to be a woman, a mother (and what the meaning of life is too ~G~)

I didn't read this one before but I'm so glad to read it now! Wonderful writing Martie Loved the ..."I feel brand new...this day is so familiar." I know what you mean....and that great ending...."truth is as apparent.... as my blue-veined hands" this is great work!!

The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges.

I am with Bill when he says that you should be required reading for men but not just because you know how to turn a simple thought to complexity made easy and insightful but also because you are so darn CUTE. LOL However, if we don't tell them then maybe we can keep you all to ourselves. Very wonderful write my friend as always and I love the way your veins pulse with poetic ink and images of refreshment in all you write. Nothing of yours could ever be classified as cliche' and you teach us all in just one read of yours that there are ways to see out there that will brighten the day if we just look hard enough. Beautiful and emotional write and you know I loved it.

Johnny jump ups and spring have a way of making even blue veined hands and creaking knees feel new. *S* Beautiful poem, Martie!

You have written my thoughts again, more eloquently than I can think them. As long as we're all applauding, I think you should take a bow.
Great writing, my dear friend
