Earthy Brown Confection Virginia Salter Truly, I must get to the kitchen applesauce bars just like Mama’s filled with raisins drenched in powdered sugar nuts, luscious walnuts spiced to perfection in their earthy brown confection. What may have chased me into this reverie? A winter’s drive ‘neath a canopy of heavy gray hanging low, then, there in the distance, the canopy rises revealing spicy hills lumpy with walnut boulders dusted in powdered sugar snowflakes looking scrumptious enough to eat. Wanna meet me by the oven? Wanna steam the raisins and stir the sauce? Wanna wait aloft in the wafting aroma for dreams worth tasting? © January 30, 2001 |

Glad you liked it insect. I haven't made the bars, though. Not supposed to eat that kind of stuff, but I may succumb. the only thing saving me...never have been able to make them like my mama. |

Hi Vas, This was wonderful, we never seem to forget Mama's cooking, and its funny what can bring our memories back to the present, very much enjoyed. Love, Cerenity "God doesn't have to be reminded that we exist. We have to be reminded that He exist!" (Writer Unknown) |
