Mud In Your Eye
Virginia Salter

he shot a bullet
into the sky
where it landed
mud in your eye

before you wonder
before you sigh
it’s dust to dust
now don’t you cry

mud running
down the cheeks
of the lonely
of the meek

making puddles
on the lane
going against
the waves of grain

Hitler wielded charm
in vain
charisma’s magnitude
left a stain

upon the land
around the earth
challenged was
a Semite’s worth

yet prevail
a remnant’s child
as his brain
went full wild

defeat was
his final due
shrouded in
a blackened hue

This isn't at all what I expected to find when I opened the post... I'd say you've said it mildly... The Holocaust was indeed one of history's most prevalent "mud in the eye" happenstances... Let's pray that future generations learn something from it..
