As I lay sleepless, in this dark and quiet room, the night covers me, like a shroud of accusing cloth, We converse, you and I, after a lifetime of silence, and I have so much to tell you, so many things I never said, Most of all, the love, I kept hidden in my heart, lo, these many long years, I give you now, freely, I feel the rush, as it flows out of me, to it’s rightful place; to you, the one who needed it most. Why was I so reluctant, to share it, to show it, perhaps it was the stubborn pride, you passed down to me. I remember every angry word, that passed between us, on that last fateful day, the day no one said goodby. And now, in the silence, I weep bitter tears, in painful retrospect, of all that could have been. All the precious time we wasted, gone now, never to return, drifted away, like smoke, on the wind of time. Oh, how I miss you, and I shudder helplessly, trapped in my guilt, as I lay here with this ache. So I talk to you now, hoping you can hear me, praying that you are not cold, or hungry, or alone. How I wish, oh, how I wish that I could have held your hand, and kissed you goodby, and whispered that I loved you. So I’ll say it now, to the silence, to the night, I love you dad. the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |

Pegasus~ This is just the most honest and tender render. *Hugs* and you know what ?? I think he hears it from your heart - because I believe urgent whispers in the night are meant to be heard. Keep winging 'em ... these thoughts do not merely stick to the bedroom walls. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Totally agree with Marge, and I know he hears, friend, love spans all. Wonderful to see such feeling when there's so much strife, between many parents and their children, in the world. Praise to you. jwesley |

i enjoyed the phrases used here, such as "shroud of accusing cloth" and "wing of time"....refreshing read, i thought.... personally, dont be too harsh on yourself...i too have problems with my parents and i am striving to remain patient whenever i talk to them...im sure such conflicts between parent and child are quite common....sigh Im he heard and was touched by what you said... |
