The sleeping poet tosses
poetically from side to side,
in rhythm and in rhyme
throwing all covers aside.

What words caress this dreamer’s mind
In a midnight fantasy?
What wonders of form and verse
will be written for all to see.

Perhaps the sleeping poet
never really dreams at night
But pens his dreams as poems
when the morning sun is bright.

So tiptoe round the poet
if you see him in repose
He’s not really sleeping, but,
beginning to compose.

this one reminds me of our own Michael
(who by the way is greatly missed round here)
very cool poem ...

True...when ever I'm dreaming, i'm usually writing at the same time, sleeping too sometimes--sleep-writing, metroambulistic experiences..then I wake up and dream dreams again reading them.  Wonderful write.  A pleasure to read...

Poeminister

I wonder if "metroambulistic"'s an actual word...

There you go again!  Another neat job of compressing a good idea into a well formed package.  I like your style!

That is the reason that I learned to dream while I was awake.  I hate to sleep anyway so I had no choice.  This was wonderfully penned and says so much of the truth that it is a wonder why it hasn't been written before now.

PoetdeVine~
This is wonderfully written.

I must confess that my first read-through
showed me I must be ready for bed~

'So tiptoe round the poet
if you see him in repose
He’s not really sleeping, but,
beginning to compose.'

(I thought it said decompose !)

LOL !

Pardon my middle-of-the-night humor ...

Good morning Poet deVine,

"Wake Up, Wake Up, Wake Up"!!!!!!, I say!!!!
"Wake That Poet Up"

Just kidding, had to do that for some reason. A very enjoyable read, and I did enjoy it.

*An Old Joke*
In a graveyard in Salzburg, the tourist asks the guard, "What is that strange music?"

The guard says, "Oh, that's just Beethoven decomposing. . . "    (LOL)

Sorry, couldn't help it. . . just came to my mind when I read this one. . . which, by the way. . .is wonderful deVine!!!

Perfect, and absolutely true. I fall asleep with poems half formed, and in the half asleep time in the morning I do five or ten poems that never make it to the other room.
Enjoyed lots!

When that poet is one like you
and the covers are all askew
the words that touch upon her mind
are indeed wonders-- of every kind

And once her muse greets her pen
We all enjoy great poems again.

Okay... The bratty part of me wanting to scream "WAKE UP!" just for the heck of it is silenced by the memory of that notebook beside my bed! LOL This is great, PDV!!!
