Loneliness
Virginia Salter

loneliness
filled with quiet
though television chatters on
darkness swallows each cell of spirit
no matter light’s continued dawn
melancholy robs the smile
that morn’s sunshine strove to give
cobwebs cling beyond the corners
where wanton hearts barely live
what might bring a spark of gladness
what might weave a pleasant song
where might one swap joy for this sorrow
remove the tears from eyes ere long
who might soothe the pain-filled core
which resides so deep inside
who might kiss away this sadness
as the waves pull back the tide

Victoria, loneliness can be a terrible burden
but it is always fleeting, I hope that things have changed now, a beautifully written poem, fav lines,

"melancholy robs the smile
that morn’s sunshine strove to give
cobwebs cling beyond the corners
where wanton hearts barely live
what might bring a spark of gladness
what might weave a pleasant song"

It's in your eyes a fire that's wild and glorious
Unhibited, unfinished in everything I do Let the morning rise like our hearts desire" whipping boy

Thanks Brian for reading and for your response.  I am not currently feeling as deeply lonely as this poem, but loneliness does creep in and out of my days.

You brought back a memory of mine, too.  When I began teaching at a local elementary school, the person in charge of welcoming me made a banner...WELCOME VERONICA!

It really is a fond memory as he then tried to say, with a smile and a glint in his eyes, well I thought that was your name in Spanish.  You see, my job was to teach mostly Spanish speaking students how to speak English.  Whenever I substitute in that school, now, one of the teachers who knows my name is Virginia, calls me Veronica for fun.

So, my name is not Victoria, nor Veronica but Virginia.  However, my user names is VAS, my initials.  Wow!  You probably never expected such a lengthy response to your comment.  Sorry. ;o}
