Prisons we Create |

Have you ever noticed how, whenever we're in pain? We create distractions to lose ourselves again The prisons we create, in reality's stead, Are frequently more binding when they happen in our head We create the thought of work… as a panacea And work our little butts off to keep the pain from drawing near A ten-hour day or more, is nothing to caress Hugging work as a way to relieve our stress Relationships are good for distancing the hurt A passionate fling can make us, feel somewhat less like dirt But when the passions done, passion that never was We're stuck with our emotions, but cannot find the cause Some people turn to drugs, or food to meet their need Not knowing that distractions will only growth impede And so they are addicted, to things they thought to use To distance their perceptions of pain they can't peruse But me I turn to poetry, when tears begin to fall It is my drug distraction, to help me build a wall To shut me and all my pain away from the real While emotions brew and fester underneath the seal When the answers no longer work, distractions are a cell What then can I invent… to speed my trip to hell Those of us who refuse to risk and grow get swallowed up by life. How true is this? We all try and find distractions when we are hurting, just so we don't have to face the reality. But the scary thing is, when we let this hurt fester, when it eventually comes to the surface it is more destructive than almost anything else. You captured the need for release beautifully in this poem. Keep it up |

Writing about pain in poetry is a way to let some of our pain be released. You do write so well, and I hope that soon you will find the peace in life you seek. |

Ah, Kethry... this one is painful... and I wish I could alleviate your pain! *G* But I sure would hope you'd keep writing even if happiness cuddled up in your lap... for unlike so many of our chosen crutches, yours adds beauty to the lives of many. |
