In my reverie What’s gone is gone, it’s true All but the secret memories I prize The lovely things we styled Like orchids far from prying eyes In tropic forests growing wild Once in our secret rendezvous And in my reverie I often think Of how that tryst of love had passed Till weary in my arms at last Looking up you'd smile to soft entreat Snuggle warm and murmur whisper sweet There now darling, sigh your wistful sighs Your tears of joy make all things reconciled Those orchids pale beside your sleepy eyes And the distant forest envies me This time I’ve whiled, in my reverie Then I awake to find it all a dream Deceptions of the early gleam But turning sorrowed back to sleep I brush your shoulder with my cheek And know your scent And thrill in passions deep For you are there! Oh, do not speak Just hold me now Trembling in the dawn of day Against your breast And kiss my tears away |
