Clear day
not one cloud
marred infinite blue
yet death
perched on my shoulder
like some angent of hell
chilling me through
despite the warmth

I heard screaming
loud and shrill
in my heart, my mind
from way down deep-
some dark place
rarely visited
or even acknowledged...
They'd touched it this day

Demons streak
across an otherwise
undisturbed horizon
while the masses move
along as if tomorrow
were forever

forever...

As elusive as the
next minute, escapes
my understanding
I can only tremble
from the cold
awaiting the inevitable
when it occurs to me
I still have one wish
just one,
before the blue
disappears into shades
of grey and fades to black

My one wish...
to have it come true
before the nothing
envelopes me completely
into it's folds and
I disappear for all eternity

My one wish:
to be the me that
existed before the
miracle and curse of you
before the trauma of giving
trust to the undeserving
before the murder of my
soul, and the wrenching
away of innocence...
to remember beauty again
before my body reflects
the empty shell of my heart

just one wish,
the inner child begs,
& outer shell cries
just one, as the woman I am
stands at the fork
with indecision, knowledge,
& the power,
no matter how painfull
the process,
to grant herself
just one wish...

Thank you, Richard, this poem was written when I was suffering from a bout of depression. The poem pretty much sums up what I was feeling...

Robin, I understand so well.
This stanza grabbed my heart especially

"My one wish:
to be the me that
existed before the
miracle and curse of you
before the trauma of giving
trust to the undeserving
before the murder of my
soul, and the wrenching
away of innocence...
to remember beauty again
before my body reflects
the empty shell of my heart"

This was beautiful and sad. I hope your life will be full of the happiness that you deserve, in the New Year.

Sandra: I'm not at all surprised that you would be able to relate to that particular part of the poem *smiles*  when I read your words, I had the same feelings...

Thank you for your kind words, sister of the heart...
