A trilogy is not enough, to speak of all this daring stuff

Next Balladeer came swiftly
Onto the field of woe
It would be an act of butchery
To win from this sorry foe

He raised his mighty mace
And swung toward the man
It hit the air above the victim's face
With a mighty clang

The victim was perspiring
In fear or sweat, who knew?
But no thought of retiring
Came from the sundered few

The battle must continue
Till one alone would stand
Take his place in halls of blue
Win the right to take command

Balladeer moved deftly
The victim was hard pressed
To harry him came Kethry
To prevent the victim rest

Then Balladeer moved off the field
At gesture from the throne
The victim had refused to yield
And stood there, frightened all alone

The next round would be a contest
With fresher warriors there
The victim waited, stood the test
But had nothing else to spare

The crowd it roared in anger
They wanted blood you see
The emperor saw the danger
He wanted easy victory

But word was law, for such as he
Could not rescind command
Although the crowd could fretful, be
Their lives were in his hand

In horror, the victim sank down
His loins were drenched with sweat
The heaven's echoing his frown
He had not won, not yet!

to be continued...
