Ghosts and Goblins
Virginia Salter

ghosts and goblins on a toot
eating worms and ginger root
kicking cats with heavy boots
on an autumn morning

bats and rats dance a jig
underneath a barren fig
singing songs of lonely pigs
all on a sunny dawning

monsters swim deep in the sea
warlocks plot a victory
witches fly in Tennessee
as daylight is breaking

pumpkins round and orange aglow
candy corns make quite a show
spider webs hold flies in tow
All Hallows Eve is coming

snakes and lizards slither by
underneath a darkened sky
newts and bat wings flutter high
as you and I are dreaming

nightmares scream and scratch on doors
sneaky steps ‘cross  creaky floors
stars burn out as cider pours
as we all face the evening.

I thought I saw the Great Pumpkin in his sleigh overhead.... I guess I wasn't seeing things after all...

Heh-heh, thanks for stopping, Nan.  I admit this is an unusual poem to post at Christmas time. ;o}
