My daddy was a gardener
Of the finest kind
He was not just satisfied with
Just a little tomato vine

He grew tomatoes in rows
Juicy red tomatoes
You could eat right in
The garden
Without any salt.

Then you could pull
up some green onions
Dine in the sunshine
All the day through

A walk in his garden
Was a gourmet's delight
Especially on a late summers day
When the fruit trees were loaded
With a sundry of various fruits

The garden of Eden
Was almost a match
For all the great goodies
Dad had in his garden so fair

Excuse me while I grab me
A red purple plum
And mmmm, isn't that
A Loquat I see..
Hand me one of those oranges
See if those avocados are ripe
Oh those peaches are so delicious..
Look at the size of those lemons

To think I had all this
And I still ate sourgrass..

I too grew up where in many places where I had access to alot of these but I ate sour grass all the time.  LOL  Isn't it funny how we see things when we are young.  I loved the write and now I am dying for some of those FRESH VEGGIES instead of the store bought ones that go through more chemicals and processes than one man can count.  Excellent penning.

A life with love will have some thorns, but a life without love will have no roses.

SongBird~
Just this past summer I was thrilled to find
a piece of sourgrass growing on the acreage ...
Until now - I never met a growed-up kinda person
who would fess up to having eaten it !
WAHOO ! ! !  Now I've got TWO of you.
Delightful !

Not as good as brussel sprouts -
but yummy just the same.

Yummy! You've got my mouth watering! We just have enough room in our little garden for a couple of tomato plants, but they are oh so good! Now, what the heck is sourgrass? I've never heard of that.

Well it has been so long since I have seen sourgrass, i wonder if I would reconize it. It grows wild in California, and shoots up with straw like stalks with little yellow flowers on them. As kids we loved to chew on them. Marge I guess it must grow wild in Florida too!

LOL... My grandmother had a wonderful garden - with all those veggies... and one corner with raspberries, blackberries, gooseberries (scrumptuous), and rhubarb... We used to raid the berries... and we ate "crabgrass" as well... Can't recall ever raiding the tomatoes... hehe...

This is a great poem... Nice work..
