Days Come
Virginia Salter

days come
days go
and we
walk or run through their hours

how we spend their moments
how we rack up our memories
seems to be settled by tiny choices
turning right
turning left
spinning on our heels

we sometimes watch days go
yet sometimes
don’t they rather watch us
for
doesn’t it seem
that we find moments
when we are standing in a spot
and we have no recollection of getting there

yet there we be
no matter how
and we turn and look back
trying to find the steps we took
attempting to find the why
of our destination

as if our destination
has found us
instead of the other way around
as if the map is made
after the roads are driven
and the river’s spanned
after the bridge is crossed

this crossing
from birth to death
filled with twists and turns
not one straight road
in the lot of them

pulsing motions
walk through
this space-time continuum
called life

then at the end
a new beginning
a new path
a new road
might it have a straighter way?
could it be?

VAS~
Quite a thoughtful piece.

'how we rack up our memories
seems to be settled by tiny choices'

I like that thought !

Thanks, Marge!  I think that line stood out in my mind, too.  Heh-heh, that's way at the beginning.  Guess this could have been a lot shorter;o}, ya think?

NO NO NO........not shorter at all.  I loved the flow all the way to the end.  I like the thought of driving the roads before the map is made.  Sort of reaching out and blazing new trails always searching for something but not really knowing exactly what.  Way cool poem Virginia.

Thanks, lots!  It's always good to know I didn't drone on for no reason.
