Half spent the night, moon's silver glow,
...twixt twilight and the dawn,
Silent lays the fallen snow,
...footprints on the lawn.

Air so cold it bites the lung,
...redness on the cheek,
Remnants of a summer past,
...through the snowdrifts peek.

The night she speaks with soothing calm,
...with crystal clarity,
Upon the land, snow's soothing balm,
...angelic purity.

Night is the beginning,
...of what has never been,
Night is neverending,
...snowflakes without sin.

Yes, snowflakes without sin.  Now, that's the kind of snowball that I want to be hit with, a no brainer......I don't know what I said, I'm in a glorious mood but I really liked this!!

Yep, Mike, it is headed this way, 8 to 16 inches...which may not sound too terribly bad until you realize that in Philadelphia they don't plow or salt the residential streets......so we're basically stranded until nature takes its course and starts melting things a bit. In the blizzard of Dec.,'95, we didn't get our car out of the parking spot for three weeks, after my husband, me and a couple of neighbors dug out the street. Some day I would really like to move somewhere where they provide basic city services like plowing or somewhere where it never snows. I'll remember your poem as I am watching the snowflakes mounting!

This is absolutely stunning
It is the virgin snow that will cover
My lawn tomorrow
And the cold does "bite the lung"
Your phrasing is superb

Wonderful tender write! The silent falling snow seems to preach a secret scheme of life somehow....the song of the winter birds across a snow wrapped lawn speaks the mystery in a reverance that can be felt right into the heart...a respect for life so far removed from the hustle and bustle of the summer days but so much a part of the marvelous gift of consciousness...take care....ethome
