Listening to every heart

Not Looking

we think we know
we do indeed
when first we see
the love of need
but we are looking

we think it taunts
this love of want
when wink of eye
causes a sigh
but we are looking

but it is when
we do not look
that by hook
and by crook
love finds us when
we are not looking

drops in, comes by
‘round the corner
a sound on the hie
like a little trick on you
and sprinkles ‘round
little clues
love finds us when
we are not looking

sets up a treasure seek
little bit of hide and peek
bit of dancing cheek to cheek
and like ripples in a creek
leads me on and on and on
leading to that new day’s dawn

then akin to lovely lace
you see the face
you note the grace
and all the past
has been erased
love finds us when
we are not looking

so I shall never ever look
‘cause it seems I’m already took

Kari love, as always this is a pure wonder, and I really do love it. I thank you for the gift of delight your poetry has given me over this holiday. You have truly soared.

So - here I am reading away - happy as a clam - strolling down your poetic pathway - and then comes:

"so I shall never ever look
‘cause it seems I’m already took"

and I felt myself falling as if you'd sprung a trapdoor - really cute ending

So very true your words and wisdom in this one my friend.  Very wonderfully put and I absolutely fell into the cadence of this one.

Sure is funny, sunshine, how things can come when one is not even looking, as you describe so well. I know I wasn't even LOOKING for a pain in the butt when Toerag showed up!

How I smiled when I read this..     Seems like it always sneaks up on us when we are least expecting it...And the ending was so unexpected...Very good...liked it much.. ~LL~

(sigh) Great poem, Sunshine! Yes, the longing of love could hurt sometimes, and many times we just find it when we least expect it. Love will blossom in everybody! Thank you for sharing, my friend!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Brilliant imagery and use of metaphor....loved the concept and title of poem...terrific work!

Hi Sunshine,

How true you write. When one is looking forget it, but when one is not looking, gadzooks! What deviltry one can get into.
