She said a boy is just a party favor. Feelings are winter-dried trees. Crumbed broken leaves and splinters of things. She said don't wear love until you wear his rings. She had fun at Saturday's three-way. She had fun drunk on the freeway. She had fun giving no leeway. She had fun. Paid and laid is the way. And all of her jewelry jangles. And all of her hair is in tangles. And her most recent party favor dangles in the rearview, stripped and star-spangled. She said a boy is just a piece of paper. Stain him in ink and then write off a check. It's okay, she said, to be the raper when the rapee is smiling through a bloodless wreck. All in all it's only feelings. All in all the scars are healing. All in all the moistness is stealing the softest, dreamiest blow to the heart and the ceiling. She said she felt like she knew him all her life. Heed no morning after; tonight be his wife. Plastic-wrapped promises and iceless cold vows. Her excuse is she's young; she only has until now. [This message has been edited by bsquirrel (edited 12-26-2000).] |

Mike, your poetic descriptions are vivid and without compare: And all of her jewelry jangles. And all of her hair is in tangles. And her most recent party favor dangles in the rearview, stripped and star-spangled. And this: Plastic-wrapped promises and iceless cold vows. Her excuse is she's young; she only has until now. Sounds like someone I used to know...(but yanno, sometimes cheap thrills look appealing....) Excellent, as always sir! |

Crumbed broken leaves and splinters of things" what an amazing couple of lines those are... waaaay cool metaphor Mike .... way cool poem .... written with that gift you have of your pen having the impact of a slap of reality. so much honesty in your words... one question tho???? what is the meaning or significance of the title? forgive me being dense me Some people find subtlety in strangers if you find anything~let me in Your eyes~you see everything my eyes~I see it all together now~and I know |
