Angels First Car By Richard Maxfield 6-20-2000 As I hand the keys to her Thoughts race through my head No longer a baby but a young lady It seems as if it were only yesterday I brought her home from the hospital So small all dressed in pink Totally depend on me for every thing I could hold her in my hands Keeping her safe from the whole world She grew and I grew with her She showed me the true meaning of life That no matter what you own it has no meaning What really matters is love The kind of love she has brought into my life Love that has no boundaries The bigger she became the more I had to let go She no longer needed my hand to walk But she still reached out to hold it When she started school I was there As she made her first long walk away All dressed up in a new dress with her papers Where ever I went she was my constant companion Always at my side with those big bright eyes A warm smile that I could never say no to Her first dance she was Angel in her gown That mean old boy was no way good enough He needed to be a prince no a king So as I hand her the keys These and a million more thoughts raging Memories when I could hold her all night. It is hard for Daddy to let go of his Angel But I know I must some how find the strength For now is her turn to fly |

Maxtec1: This poem was so loving it brought tears to my eyes. You sure can feel your love for your angel in it. I'm sure my dad feels this way, because I'm his baby. Nice to see it from a Dads point of view. Take care. ~Lisa~ ~in order to gain, you have to lose~ |

I've read this poem of yours before and I thought it was so good then and I don't think any less now. I have one daughter only and I appreciate what you're writing about so much...just excellent work....ethome |

Thank you all for the wonderful comments. This poem was and is a chuck of my heart. My baby is not a bay any more but she will always be my baby. Love and light, Richard |

Oh, this was a very lovely poem, Richard! Yes, growing up is an inevitable part of life, but that little angel will always be part of your heart, forever! Your love for her shines like the heavens in here, thank you for sharing, my friend! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton |

Aw Richard...How very lovely..I have 2 of these Angels and it is so hard to clip those wings and let them fly..I have missed so much of your work, my puter has been down...Thankfully I was able to get here for this one... Another keeper..As you already knew.. Hugs...~LL~ The way to love anything is to realize it might be lost. author unknown |

Maxtec1: Your welcome for my comment. It's true no matter how old she is she will always be your baby. Both my dad and me feel that way about me. Take care. ~Lisa~ ~in order to gain, you have to lose~ |
