Fade to Black
By Richard Maxfield
9-15-2000

In the distant tomorrows
Reflections of the past
Burn my eyes to heart
Blinding my soul

Speak in silence deaf
Eyes expose the truth
Of so much unsaid
Yet denying the certainty

Searching for what is real
In the land of make believe
Where even lies become truth
And truth escapes me

Playing the game
That’s no game
I stumble through life
Finding light in darkness

Handprints upon my soul
Become footprints on my heart
When what can’t be bought
Is sold, for pennies on the dollar

So where next to go
From confusion to realty
From lies to realization
Or fade to black

Richard, an intense read, some wonderful images especially loved the verse;

Handprints upon my soul
Become footprints on my heart
When what can’t be bought
Is sold, for pennies on the dollar

Wow - powerful words with effective haunting images.  The reader feels your pain, as I know I surely did. I also loved the lines "handprints upon my soul, become footprints on my heart." The ending was very strong
