You say to meditate my mind, When it has always been this free And I a sacred of what I have not yet seen. Oh I am trying It tears upon my soul O what foolish wanderings are my thoughts? They are filled with clutter I am overwrought over petty ideals If only I could be free to trace my fingers upon someone who is showing himself real Hear my ramblings my pain And I did not mean to gain a vanity's bargaining I did not mean to emphasize pride My defensiveness to not hear the constructive criticism, To place its tool to polish me From all this unneeded roughness and rustic sheltering So shelter'd do I feel Please heal me Restore to me my innocence of love So sweet the childhood fantasy of believing And I still believe Could you be easier with me to just enjoy my company? Could you just for a moment hold me? Could you for a moment not try to mold me for my own Benefit? Could you see the beauty that already exists? For I once ran wildly, happily, naively, free Unsure of who I could be And in this moment I am idling unsure of whom I am Could you for once not be the teacher but the friend? -Barbara M. Brewer- |
