         "MEMORIES THAT WERE”
                     by
                Bill Charles
                   ~~~~
My lonesome bed caresses me, but still I can’t conform,
        it’s not the same as you beside me,
                keeping me warm…
My anguish is total, and my hurt is so very real,
        don’t know what I should do,
                for I thought we had a deal…
A deal means being together, two becomes one,
        not me here, and you there,
                even though there’s affection…
For one can be lonely, and stray from the nest,
        even though that one,
                may have tried their very best…
I remember the time, when you kissed me with love,
        you were soft and gentle,
                more so than a newborn dove…
But now I only long for, just one tender touch,
        for the Lord knows,
                I miss you so very much…
Thoughtful memories, when our paths were serene,
        walking together,
                down our trail so pristine…
But somehow we lost, the love that we had,
        and now my insides bleed,
                they are so very sad…
A love lost with time, but possibly one gained,
        but to lose what we had,
                is a terrible shame…
Many years have been kind, and many have not,
        I look at today and ask,
                “What have we got”?
I think of what we have, there’s only you and me,
        and many of our treasured but broken dreams,
                which I can see…
My tears still flow, they’re at a quicker pace,
        for I have no one to wipe them,
                and it’s you, I cannot replace…
The past brings memories, somewhere out of the blue,
        and I remember the time,
                when I loved only you…
What happens now I wonder, that we’re so far apart,
        I sing so many sad songs,
                deep within my ailing heart…
I wonder about what love is, perhaps it’s understanding,
        but why does it disappear,
                when two insides are hurting?
When it does, ahead there is a frightening unknown,
        and delicate, “Memories That Were”,
                forever now,
                    they are gone…
Bill-
this one is awesome...!!!
"My tears still flow, they’re at a quicker pace,
for I have no one to wipe them,
and it’s you, I cannot replace…"
and
"I wonder about what love is, perhaps it’s understanding,
but why does it disappear,
when two insides are hurting?"
i could totally feel this... the first quote hit hard, the second is something i'd like to ask you to give me the answer to once you come up with it. this is a wonderful poem!
We can grow together or we can allow ourselves to grow in separate directions... It's sad indeed when our lives digress from one another... and invariably more sad for one than the other.... Nicely done, BCI..
Morning SEA,
How are you on this freezing morning with 16 inches of snow that I'm having in Iowa? Hope it's warmer where you are.
SEA, I also felt this when I was writing it. At times I am suprised where all the sadness comes from within. But I also love to write happier ones. Thanks for your replies.
Morning Startime,
I thank you for your soft comments about this writing. Yes, there was pain writing it, perhaps I will always carry it with me. But time heals, and I do believe that it will happen. Thank you so much for your encouragement, and look forward to seeing you once again on Passions.
Morning doreen peri,
It is so nice to see one of my most favorite poets, and I thank you for dropping in.
If I ever, ever find out, "what love is", you will be the first to know. But at the present time, phewy, I'm am totally looney about that subject. But I do know, when it's good, it's good. But when it's not, how very sad one can be.
Morning Poet deVine,
Nice to see you this morning, hope that your day goes well. Yes, a lot of sadness, perhaps too much, but I do believe that it will pass. Thank you for commenting on this writing, and at the present time, I have a smile from ear to ear.
i didn't really want the answer to what it is... that's something that can never be answered, i don't think... i wanted to know the answer to "why does it disappear"....
so, if you find out that answer, let me know, k? thanks!
Bill
Very sad reading that quite a few of us can relate to.  I hope and pray that happiness comes your way, especially during the holiday season.  Your writings are beautiful.
Good evening Nan,
Oh my goodness, I went right over your reply, please forgive me. Thank you Nancy, for what you have said here, as they are indeed very true. You are one special person, and thank you.
evening doreen peri,
I did misunderstand what you had said, and believe it or not, I do believe I know a lot about why it disappears, at least I think I do. Of course the reasons are a bit too lengthy to explain here.
Evening Ariana,
I do thank you for your reply to this writing. You are too kind with your words, and I thank you again.
Bill, maybe it's just me, but I haven't seen you around lately.
This is a really touching, but sad poem.
I just went through something kind of similar and I know where you come from.
My sympathy to you, and a BIG HUG!
Bill~
I was happy to read that you now are sporting a grin
I think sometimes the sadness comes
so that gentle poems, that will serve as to help another, are born.
This is one of those, I believe.
Thanks for sharing.
Bill...
Fate brought me here to read this poem by you. It's wonderful in it's honesty, and I needed that so very much right now. Thank you for writing this, my friend.
Write on!
Evening ethome,
Yes indeed, it is the blues, of which I am so very fond. I appreciate your words of kindness, and thanks for reading this one of mine.
Evening passing shadows,
Thank you passing shadows, for the consideration of your reply. I found when one has lived it, the pen writes it down from the inside, with perhaps the words being the same as the feelings within.
Evening WhtDove,
Well WhtDove, you are correct, I haven't been around lately, as I have just returned from a well needed rest on Vancouver Island, BC. But, I am back with more writings that I have done, and hope that they are as well received as this one. I can relate to your experience very well, and want to thank you also for stopping by. A hug for you!
Evening Marge,
A grin from ear to ear, that's me, but still a writer at times of the sad poems. Thank you very much for the very kind and meaningful words of your reply. Thanks Marge, and hopefully this one will help another.
Evening Kethry,
Thank you for the softness of your words in this reply to my writing. I'm very glad that you liked it, and a hug for you.
Evening Sunny,
I pray that this one helped you in whatever your thoughts are going through. You know that you always have been a friend, and I want to thank you for coming by this little place of mine. I sincerely hope that it has helped, and I wish you all of the good things in life.
Evening james,
You are so very kind, and it is very nice to see you once again. Yes, wouldn't it be grand if all the memories were happy ones, but unfortunitly they cannot be. But they pass, and one does continue.
Evening vandana,
A'hh, if it wasn't for some of those hurt memories at times, how would we ever learn? Nice to see you.
Evening Wilfred,
Nice to see you, and thanks you for the heartfelt words that you have left for me. And yes, my heart is in every word, and I do feel it, very much.
