Oh, Boy He walked away slowly, with a discernible new bounce, school backpack draped casually over one shoulder. About to leave, son delivered safely, I was struck by an impression, not of a fourth grade boy, but of an emergent young man. Some shift in genetic structure surely must have taken place while he slept, a miraculous surge of growth the only explanation. The workday called noisily, yet I lingered, felt the distance between us imperceptibly stretch, in minute minutes freedom claimed. © 2000 Corinne Bailey [This message has been edited by Corinne (edited 12-06-2000).] |

Lovely reflection Corinne. Written like a true mother...like the song says "time passed us by like a soft whispered sigh" I love your angle of perception here it's very realistic while remaining poetically beautiful...ethome |

Corinne, in tears here. How well I know. I look at my son sometimes (almost eye to eye now) and I am overwhelmed. And shame on me, when he talks with that little man voice, sometimes I don't hear a word he says because I am so startled that THAT sound is coming out of "my baby"...sigh. We need to enjoy every minute, I think. Thank you for this one!!! |

I have two sons, and they tower over me, and just the other day I had tears in my eyes, remembering them in my arms, at feeding time and smiling thinking, how impossible. I loved this one. What is that you express in your eyes? It seems to me more than all the words I have read in my life. Walt Whitman |
