Virginia Salter Sparkled panes, of window glass, glisten in the night. Tannenbaum and candles glow, street lamps, red and green; fill the festive scene. In some hearts a radiant beam, as if an ember’s blush, uplifted by the memory of that unforgettable creche. In other hearts a strident stream of aching, lonely thought, seeking hard serenity in what’s received or bought. Oh holy night or holly night the choice lies deep within look to the wrapping or the Light, to Son of God or men. © December 5, 2000 |
