May my troubles never become your troubles. May my words of distress never cause you distress. May my thoughts be remembered as such, My thoughts. My beliefs-my beliefs, My truths-my truths. May I show you only compassion, tempered with humor, trimmed in honesty and despensed as needed. May I never forget your accomplishments, or belittle what you endured to reach them. May the words "I'm sorry" always fall freely from my lips when they are merited, and be well meant. May I always have a free hand to offer when you slip A free moment to spare when you need me A free smile to lend, when yours has been temporarily misplaced. May I offer insight when you see no light, hope when you feel hopeless, and strength when you feel powerless. May I never say "I did it, why can't you" And if I can live up to these things, then I shall leave this world a better place than when at first I came. And if I can inspire someone to carry this torch for me when I am gone, then all will have been worthwhile. Find your strength, catch hold of your dream, and fly. |

This is a beautiful guideline for any relationship... but perhaps especially parenting. *S* |

Two of your poems I have read today each one more moving than the other. Thank you for such pleasant enjoyment. |

Suthern, Thank you for your comments. While I was writing this, parenting was not even on my mind, but you are absolutely correct. It is far more fitting for that, then what I originally had in mind. Thank you, too, inot2B. I am glad that I was able to make you feel what I felt. That is my objective, although, there are so many times I do fall flat on my face! |

WOW! what an awesome poem. this is definitely one for everyone to read. i was going to pick out some fav lines, but i found i was highlighting the whole thing. what truly beautiful sentiments, and an awesome mission statement to have for life. Everyone's got their demons. We all got somethin' to atone for. |

these words are words of compassion, spoken truly from the mouth of a leader... hope we can all leave someone "to carry the torch" when we are gone. |

Thank you all. While I am not sure about the glowing comments, I am sure that it is the Truth as I see it. Ethan, mission statement seems to be it. This is one of my favorite ways to write, but is it really poetry? I would like everyones opinions on that. Sandi |
