With grit in our pores
And feet that are sore
We travel all day
For a place we can stay
And when we hit town
The word gets around
That the Carnival's here
That the Carnival's here

We ain't certified
For we do have our pride
When the city ain't lax
Pay the bribery tax
And the semis chew ground
On the outskirts of town
For the Carnival's here
For the Carnival's here

We've the Zipper, the Jinn
Seadragon and then
The Zephyr, the Spark
And booths for the Marks
And if you ain't spent
The Freakshow tent
The last in the Land
The last in the Land

For only a dollar
You'll scream and holler
Entrancments galore
Through this tent door
With Oddities found
From the World round
The Freaks and the Geeks
The Freaks and the Geeks

A man with no limbs
A girl without skin
The bearded Miss Lounge
Who weighs 800 pounds
The Freaks for the show
Number twenty or so
With a piece of the take
With a piece of the take

Behind the tent flap
Is where it is at
If you want to see
The worstest Beasties
They scream and they holler
And paid us a doller
The Freaks seeing Freaks
The Freaks seeing Freaks

Ali, this brought the "barkers" out in full force...at least in my mind...and I can smell the cotton candy...

Balladeer needs to revive that post where we posed as Carnival acts/artists/etc....

the new folks would love it!

I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound.

Yeah I remember the carnival, the rides, the freak shows, and in some cases even bingo.. yeah they were great but I love the way you end it with the freaks watching the freaks.. because you do feel a little like a freak when you're in there and somewhere deep inside you're telling yourself...why do I want to see this...but that was all part of going to the CARNY....love this poem.... full of memories for me....ethome
