From A King-size Bed I woke up this morning alone, in a king size bed, put my hand on the pillow where you used to lay your head. I stared at the ceiling where I had written I love you, such a long time ago, so each morning you'd open your eyes, and know. I've loved you so long... since all our children and years gone by, through all the turmoil, the joy, the years we spent together, just you and I. But now I do it alone, and every night that goes by I love you so much more for the memories you gave, and even with the tears, I do so adore, the wonderful thoughts I saved. If I could do it all again, where would I start... marriage and kids and everything else from beginning to end; but there I'd change the first, the only thing that we were; we'd live forever, there would be no end, there would be no death, no absence, no broken apart, no living alone, no staring at ceilings, at words we called art, from a king-size bed holding half a heart. w. james beard, jr. I always find it so amazing how nostalgic sadness can be put into words so beautifully and this is a real fine example of that and wonderful tribute to your love. There must have been a tremendous bond between the two of you....great poem!! |

Inot2B and Ethome, thank you so much for the gracious words and thoughts... This is not my plight, but that of a friend. My other half is still kickin' and screamin' (Darn! - I'm so happy she is!) Seriously, I am...we've had 26 years thus far, and many to go I hope. jwesley |

Knowing that you've penned this through the eyes of another makes this even more stunning...you wrote as your heart has felt this and through reading the words I feel as though I have...you truly have a gift to weave the emotions and the words JW...this is excellent..so sad and so tender~ |

BDC & Spitfire - from one whom respects both your talents, I'm honored that you enjoy mine. Any bed can be lonesome, but especially one that was lovingly shared for 50-plus years. jwesley |
