In a Blue Jay's wink Winter’s coming round the bend It’s later than you think I can feel the cold winds blowing It’s in a Blue Jay’s wink It’s in a Cardinal’s painted wing The scarlet feather bright That match the holly berry tree Where Cardinal pair alight Winter’s coming just ahead It in the winds that blow It’s in the song of Chikadee And flapping of the Crow North winds will be upon us And in frigid blasts descend It’s in the thrust of Nuthatch And in twitch of Winter Wren A Warbler’s pretty yellow wing Swooped down for seed and crumb And all the other winter birds Are signs of things to come Just watch the birds of winter breed And then prepare for winter's need Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 11-10-2000).] |

Ah Elizabeth.... wonderful references to such beautiful winged creatures. This is an excellent wistful look into the predictable instincts of these gentle but hearty creatures...and you're right..winter's coming...you should see what it's like up here, yet, I always find such a distant lonely inspiration in the season. The first snowfall gets my creative juices flowing ....wonderful work you've penned here....keep them coming dear sweet poetess....ethome.... |

Elizabeth, It's hard to warm in winters cry But I have warmed in some gone by. You are a wonder full of splended words. LOve Sy |

Nature shines in poetry, as does the seasons, well done. Andrew |
