Little deaths are all around
in the world that folk have found
to pain increase and lies abound
those little deaths can soon surround

Little deaths in barbs and pricks
in harming words that wound like sticks
in casual comments that humanity flicks
to build one up while the other slips

Little deaths in everyday
what people do, what people say
no strength to keep the pain at bay
and deal with little deaths each day

Little deaths in tiny deeds
planting bitterness in their seeds
not looking for the higher needs
while the world defeat concedes

Little deaths go on and on
unless its makers can be strong
and find a way to right the wrong
put little deaths where they belong

Growth demands a temporary surrender of security.

This is so needed, for just a little spark of the right word or action can stop a "little death" and we all would live a lot longer and happier.  Loved this.

Kethry, so very laden with truth, this piece. Your simple format and phraseology allows the reader to focus on the magnitude, if you will, of the overall effect of each of these little deaths, combined. Wonderfully insightful.

Kethry, not what I expected, but truthful, insightful and on target!

A very wonderful poem! The title is what drew me in and I was not let down with the poem!

We could very easily have a more productive effect on the world - just by turning those little instances into positives instead of negatives.... Wouldn't that be nice?... This is a good'n, Keth..

so very and finely executed.

thanks so much. They're my favourite lines as well even though they don't quite rhyme.

Yes how casually we inflict these little deaths...when we could just as easily go the other way with a kind word or deed. Wonderful write here girl.

Well done! The title and recurring phrase "little deaths" is perfect. We spend so much time emphasizing the bigger "crimes" that we commit, we forget how hurtful the little words and deeds really are. Good message.
