Looking Back

How full my soul was, how quiet
when you came back into my life.
You calmed the storm in my heart
with only a touch of your hand,
Like the gentlest breeze
that carried the rain out to sea.
My spirit lay peaceful and still.

How warm your touch was, how softly
Your fingers entwined with my own,
You created in me a new hope.
With your easy earthwarm breath
You sang a different lovesong,
one my battered heart
had heard only once before.
Your words inspired my faith,
Taught me again how to trust.

How full my life was, how happy
through those days
when you brought the sun
to brighten my dark , lonely life.
You gave to my uneasy sleep
a wonder-full new dream, unlike
any other dream I could have known.
You made me rest warm, and easy.

How tender your kiss was, how silent
the fear that had filled me for years.
Held safe within your arms again, I knew
nothing of the world could touch me.
In those precious moments,
there was only you and I
and no need for words
save the three we whispered
heart to heart; the words
that I would whisper to you now.....

I love you.

Simply said...I love this, so much to build on, to look forward to. Lovely work.

Just one word. Beautiful.

I believe this is the first poem I've read of yours. It is lovely, just lovely.

"When red-haired girls scamper like roses
over the rain-green grass,
and the sun drips honey.""

Robert, Ron, Marge and Rose...thank you so much for your kind comments. I am sitting here with tears in my eyes after having just read the one comment that mattered most..I emailed this poem earlier today to its subject and I received a very tender response from him......what can I say? His absence from my life is a wound that will never heal. But your sweet responses have made a little of that pain go away.

Rose, I have long been away, used to post regularly here but the truth is I haven't been writing much the last many months. I hope to post more in the near future and I hope you will read them all

How spiritual and intimate is your relationship...  Such reverence you have expressed in the one who you love.  You have expressed your emotions very well in this post.  I am glad to read that you are back in contact with and I hope that you told your lover those most tender, often left unspoken, words aloud this time...  "I love you."     Bob <><

Bob, thank you for your encouraging comment. Unfortunately that poem was written, as the title says, looking back. He came back into my life 20 years ago, and after a time, left again. He has been married to someone else for a long time but he will always be the one great love of my life. And I did tell him...sent him the poem in an email..and he really appreciated it...wrote a very sweet response. Thanks again.

"How full my soul was."  Thinking about how you feel really comfortable and accepted around certain people...how some womens hands fit into my own perfectly...not necessarily the size but the feelings...always amazes me...James
