the winged master of my lower skies ...

once
on a bright summer's day
i became intimately familiar with
bombus trifasciatus (the Bumble Bee)

so enticing was his yellow
so decisive was his black
he ruled the lower skies
of my young world

my plan, on this day
was to say hello
in the most polite of
catching ways

a simple tool would work --
something to hold him captive
for that brief moment
of my inspection

shining silver
waving freely
beckoned to his
million eyes

as he neared
my spooning entrapment
not a flinch
did i make

the wings were impossible
to ignore
as he flew towards
my snaring utensil

so perfectly slow
his landing drew
applause from all
the other bees

all i wanted
was to take a closer look
at his miraculous style
and grace

but my touch
was too harsh an introduction
for my royal stinging
prisoner

once
on a bright summer's day
my respect grew tenfold
for the winged master of my lower skies

M.A. I enjoyed your cleverly told tale. Bumbles are fascinating, but they ARE bees! Thank you ~

Enjoyed the way you wrote this...remember when I was a young guy picking wild berries in the woods and having to coax the bees away ...  James

MAMiller~
This was just delightful !
Having watched many a little fellows curiosity get stung
I appreciated it tremendously.
Gave me a giggle of remember.
