The stained wood of a frozen face appearances of teak-- lines burnt, a starburst of tears on either cheek... surface silken sanded smooth lips carved into grotesque smile romanesque nose aquiline remnant of a god defiled. The fire now but smoldered coals, beating tom toms, shadowed flight... I dare to place mask on my face I dance to warm the chill of night. Oh, reality is vague, as I curse laughter as a plague - remembering his mocking grin, a sacrifice of virgin skin an offering to crown him king-- magnetic warmth to fire's sting, I offered him my everything and cried as fire died. |

WOW!! you're really doing it to me with this one...great work!! I'm a bit lost but I sense some distaste but the strength to overcome the same...some sort of Indian ritual maybe or just your own private thing...love it all the same... wonderful images and clever writing.....ethome |

Mike, ethome--I thank you much. I guess this one is VERY cryptic...was written as my 'nod' to Halloween, in comparison to my celebration of Samhein--the final harvest. It is about making the sacred profane. Thank you all. |

I think my brother would hang this one on his wall. He is a big religious buff. I am not so big on the organized side of religion, nor many of the versions of the Bible. But when it comes down to the straight forward spiritual side of it all, I am all over it. The most impressive crucifix I've ever seen is at the Catholic worship center in Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron, New Mexico. It is hand carved wood, with a mild stain that makes the skin seem life like. After spending seven days in God's own country...living it, breathing it and drinking it up...and then coming back on Sunday morning to base camp and attending mass in front of that crucifix was a great moment in my life. |

rich, I thank you lovie, as always Mike, your replies mean a great deal to me..and I know, I should have worked on the meter, huh? MI--you blew me away, wasn't expecting you to go find it..lol, but thank you, you flatter me, and also makes me curious... you've studied, yes? Do "e" me and tell me more--I'm particularly interested in the cross sections of gods/mythology and christianity. |
