To Return Again On Hallow's Eve

comes this night, just once, the year
this spirit awaits, for she shall hear
the voice of her love, and shall quit her bower
on Hallow's Eve, at the midnight hour

she's walked the halls these long years past
her cry a sob in the winds that pass
for the one night that she may again meet
the soul for whom her spirit entreats

her passage this night will take her beyond
the halls and walls of her wanting home
and as the moon surges up t'ward heaven
to yon meadow's clearing she shall roam

shhh, you can hear her soft refrain
'tis the tune Greensleeves she sings again
for her lover sang to her this ballad
and promised himself to be her lad

and to him, she was Lady Greensleeves
she did him no wrong, but was left to grieve
for to war he went, but did not return
he was her love, all others she spurned

but on an Eve, on a Hallow'd night
in the meadow's clearing, under pale moonlight
she caught a glimpse of his spirit come 'round
and followed him, and they retrieved her, drowned

so comes this night, just once, the year
this spirit awaits, for she shall hear
the voice of her love, and shall quit her bower
on Hallow's Eve, at the midnight hour

Kari, This is fabulous, such a tragically sweet and haunting tale. Yes I love it, of course I do, it is as always beautiful, it's so soft and with a bittersweet quality. If I had a voice I'd be cheering, very loudly.
Love this I really do
Take care

Marsha, my faithful reader! Thanks! I don't do "scare" well...but bittersweet can be just as haunting, no?

Marge, you think so? Thanks!

Ah denise, thank YOU!

Sunshine,
Not your average love story , but one befitting of the season , told very flowingly
through your verse . Excellent !

Kari, bittersweet is much better for me, you know how easily I scare, I won't even go on the ghost walk, which is supposed to be fun. Mmmm some fun. Boosting this back to the top love, so that everyone can get a chance to see this class act.
Take care

Cat, how I appreciate your comment, thank you!...

Doc, thank you! Especially for coming in to read such a "not scary" piece...

Sven, I'm glad you liked this one...

Marsha, I can take the scare, I just cannot concoct it as other spellbinders are able...and my dear, I do believe, you are the guardian angel on my shoulder, aren't you?...a humble thank you...
