The rustle of leaves scattering to the will of the wind,
Give pause to skittish feet and  haste to nervous darting eyes.
Or was it something else , what could the eerie sound portend?
Turning on a heel and spinning within  each dark disguise,
Wondering  with exactly what they may have to contend.
Hearts now pounding loudly while fears continue to arise,
no light does shine about them, and just around the next bend
beckons their  destination , the place they all now despise.
Whose idea was it anyway, surely not a friend
Now wanting only to go home not caring for a prize
Glances now are traded, wondering on who each can depend,
Who would be the best ones  for me to choose as my allies?
The house loomed large before them now with nothing to impend
Upon the door one hand did knock  though thinking it unwise
As soon as the door came open a horror did descend
But it stopped for not a moment  the Trick or Treating cries!!!

Save me.....
from tomorrow, when I have to hang with about 300 under 10's in costumes, at the local mall, just to take my little granddaughters to something halloweeny..
Great imagination in this poem...
