Once Thought

My love --
it came hurling at you,
a twirling dagger thrown
with heated intentions.

How could I not expect
you to run --
one who never knew the
bleeding of a heart was
meant for more than pain.

My passions, they tangled
your feet in cords of disbelief.
You fought off ''the high''
not wanting to land on
a bed of spears.

But now you see --
my hands, they only soothe you.
Those cords you once thought
to be weapons brought
against you --
proved only to be strands of silk
meant to heal your wounded heart.

Irons once hot with the red sting of
fear have fallen to the river's bottom.
Through the steam of their dismissal,
you see the wealth in my green eyes --
a reflection of loving you.
