Vitamins have no kcals and they're easily destroyed
Minerals are essential, something you must not avoid
Carbs, proteins, fats: provide us with our calories
Alcohol does too, but don't waste all your salaries
Water makes up sixty percent of your body weight
These are the six nutrients that should always be on your plate

                                              Fats oils
                                      Taste good sweets.
Milk, yogurt, cheese. Meats eggs nuts and beans
Vegetables such as yucky beets. Fruits reds, oranges, and greens.
Bread, rice, pasta, and cereal: these are the food groups that keep us lean

Insulin are doormen; are hormones; are proteins
Don't take an overdose, buddy, it might shock you kinda mean
It's made in the pancreas and lowers blood glucose sweetly
Glucagon from the pancreas raises BG rather neatly

They all sorta sound real close, some maybe even a tad bit gross
Monosacchs are named galactose, glucose and fruity fructose
Listen! Lactose is the most familiar dissaccharide
It means to some, cow milk, they just cannot abide

Sorbitol is found in most sugarless, weird tasting gum
It doesn't promote cavities and helps the diabetes some
Aspartame is in blue; Saccharin's packet is in pink
Aspartame is found in poisionous diet cola drink
Aspartame may cause nerve damage and here is a fright
It turns into formaldehyde at 86 Fahrenheit

I sure bet you wish you
Could rip out the fat
In your adipose tissue

The endosperm has the most starch and is made into flour
Eat a lot of fiber and you'll be busy in an hour
You can find animal starch not in the plants
If you don't remember that, you will not have a chance
You need 'bout twenty-five g's: fiber, out of your dietary diet
It produces an even rise of BG if you would only try it

Type I diabetics are insulin dependent
If we all had their diets that would sure be resplendent
You can't take an insulin pill because insulin is a protein
It'd just get digested and never again would be seen

Type II diabetics tend to be in the older bracket
Insulin receptors, in good supply, they really tend to lack it
They also can get it from obesity; they are not auto immune
If they don't lose some weight they may be dying kinda soon

Polyuria is excessive urine; Polydipsia lots of thirst
Glycosuria is glucose in your pee, wait it gets even worse
Diabetics get blurred vision and a sorta inside tingling
Hyperglycemia, weight gain, and dehydration intermingling

You won't be to busy in fact you can even rest in
Fiber puts to work your small and large intestines
It can prevent the onset of (let's talk about) constipation
Also helps hemorrhoids to my grandest pure elation

I am muttering these lines, in class, hoping to get an A
If that's what happens, by way of this, a sequel's on it's way

This is a test I'd fail, I'm afraid.   Very creative to make this into a poem.  Reading all of it, I don't think it does anything for my appetite! LOL! To think of what all that stuff does...You're smarter than I am. I never could have understood this subject enough to make a poem from it.

Walt I love medical stuff, and this is one post I can refer back to.

Strange it is that I sent that email out about aspartame. That crap is seriously dangerous.  Great job and good luck on the test buddy!
