Another You

(Today I heard this wonderful old ‘chestnut’ on the radio – and by coincidence tonight I read ‘deer’s  latest ballad on the same theme – I can’t help myself – I too must try my hand)

The Original: (full title: There Will Never be Another You)

There will be many other nights like this,
And I’ll be standing here with someone new,
There will be other songs to sing,
Another fall, another spring.
But there will never be another you.
There will be other lips that I may kiss,
But they won’t thrill me like yours used to do,
Yes, I may dream a million dreams,
but how can they come true,
If there will never ever be another You.

My effort:

I’ve met so many in all my years of life
Kissed quite a few, even made two my wife
No one has captured my heart quite the same
I was simply reading, I’ve only myself to blame

You wrapped me with tears, filled me with laughter
Warmed my heart with joy, gave my soul its rapture
So what would I do if I ever lost you?
I know already I’d always be blue

Another you? Never! You have my heart
If I lost you from me it would part
All the sun in my life, and the moon as well
My days in darkness forever I’d dwell

So kiss me my sweetheart, give me my life
With a glorious hug we’ll abandon all strife

We cannot tell what may happen to us in the strange medley of life.
But we can decide what happens in us... how we can take it, what we
can do with it

Sir Poet Bill*
I do love it when you weave from your heart,
few can do it as fine as you do.  This was

Evening Wilfred,

You writing has the desired effect that you were looking for. You tried your hand and came up with a beauty. Nicely done, Wilfred.

Wilfred~
Throw you a morsel of inspiration
and you run it to the top !
Which is right where this one is going !

*Isn't that Balladeer a great inspiration ?
Yep !  That he is !

Wilfred....
This is one of my most favorite songs....I love to sit and play this on my keyboard along with I'll Be Seeing You, and Someone To Watch Over Me. I love to sing them!! So, of course, I was thrilled to see this posting and your beautiful writing!!
Such wonderful words from you....

BDC-
With admirers like you - I must take the words in small doses - to keep my ego at bay - Thank you

Bill-
Good Morning - your words are so kind - thank you.

Marge -
There is no comparison - deer is a champ - I didn't really 'see/read' his poem until after I'd begun my effort - Yet I could not ignore the beauty of his words.

Karilea-
I love having fans like you around    (gonna go bump you when I finish this reply )

Sunny -
'Someone to watch over me' is one of my favorites to play too   along with many others of that era (breeze and i - little white lies etc. ) Thank you so much for reading/responding

Martie-
Love songs? - hey it's easy when you're in love ~S~

Irish Rose-
see? that's what you miss being so young ! - yes - a great song - (not my poem   )Thank you

Wil,
you did it again
took some old words
and made them sing
you pull on the chords
of my heartstring
and soon all those words
with melody ring
what can I say but applause, applause
I hope your writing never has pause.
