In the park at night
Not another soul in sight
Street lights hum in the air
The city's silence is so rare

A warm breeze begins to blow
The tree branches move so slow
Leaves rustle on the ground
Cutting the silence with their sound

I walk through the grass
A squirrel runs on past
As the park's residents sleep
Somewhere in the shadows deep

Illuminated in the center
Seen from wherever you enter
Is a colorful water fountain
Where rivers stream from mountains

I am captured by its beauty
Guarding the night is its duty
Gently the water runs aside
As a leaf rides the tide

Sitting and watching in wonder
The fountain's spell I'm under
Until the morning breaks
And the sun quietly wakes

Very nice walk in the park. Where I live it is not safe to walk anywhere after dark.

Oh, there's nothing I enjoy more than the park, except perhaps the forest, Jennifer, I loved this.  I enjoyed reading and thinking about the beautiful sounds and tranquility that even a park brings. Thank you for posting this one!

LoneWolf~
This enfolds such softly presented serenity that I could
almost hear the flow of the fountain.

Lovely, my friend.

Evening Lone Wolf,

I read what you have written and enjoyed it very much. I then closed my eyes remembering what I had read, and could see the park in my mind. Nicely done.
