A Simple Promise Your eyes betray a sadness Deep within your soul That you hide behind a glowing smile So no one will ever know. Behind that warm and gentle laugh Lies an ocean full of tears, A masquerade of joviality Hiding a heart frozen with fears. Your secret sorrow locked away You have safely buried the key, And though you hide it well, my friend, I can see that your burden is heavy. I see the pain behind your smile And in my heart I know the truth, For not so very long ago I walked in those very shoes. I know the hurt you carry Deep inside your very soul; You are more like a brother than just a best friend, And this much I want you to know. I would sacrifice everything I have If happiness could be bought, And for you I'd pay the price in full Without a second thought. But the only thing I can promise you, When your burden is too great to bear, I will never leave your side, my friend, And your burden I will share. Terry* I've missed your sweet gentle poems...this is exquisite work my friend. Your heart shines in everyline and the love that you have waiting to burst out and rain on those around you so that they bloom.
