Little Boys Lost There’s a legend of St. Mary’s Church Worth telling every Hallowed Eve The story of three boys lost Back in nineteen seventy. The way I heard it, the boys had a bet With some bullies at their school Spend the night in the old cemetery Or lose dignity and face ridicule. So they agreed to meet on the corner At exactly half past eight, Stealth-like in their maneuvers They crept past the wrought iron gate. But their courage quickly waned When cries were heard in the night The caw of the nocturnal barn owl Flying past in a flash of white. Suddenly the wind picked up As they neared ghostly headstones Morbidly reading epitaphs And feeling quite alone. In the center, a mausoleum To which they were reluctantly drawn With high gray marble walls And a pillar in the shape of pawn. Oddly, the lock was broken One-by-one they slipped inside, An infamous shipping tycoon Was interred here when he died. A large and very old clock Hung at the end of the hall With a golden pendulum At the end, a diamond ball. Intrigued, the boys moved closer Just before midnight chimed A warning etched upon the glass Their encroachment poorly timed. “Take heed all who enter here In this sacred place of rest - Touch not the diamond sphere Lest your luck be put to the test!” Now, boys will be boys Curiosity won over fear One of them touched the stone Causing them to disappear. So,don’t tread upon the dead In the malingering of the day The ghosts of the boys lost Might lead you too astray! © 2000 Corinne Bailey [This message has been edited by Corinne (edited 10-11-2000).] |

Ohh...I liked this. It reads with a hint of warning, and mystery. It also sounds like it could be in a Dugeons and Dragons campaign. |
