(I have carried this poem with me for many years. Actually, since I was in high school. I don't remember how I got it or even who wrote it, but I had several friends who never came back from Vietnam and so it always had a special meaning. It was also the piece that inspired me to start writing. It seems to be fitting at this time.) Since I Met You (Unknown Author) Hello God, I have never spoken to you. But, now I want to say, "How do you do?" You see God, they told me you didn't exist. And like a fool, I believed all this. Last night from my shellhole I saw your sky. I figured, right then, they had told me a lie. Had I taken time to see the things you made, I'd had known they weren't calling a spade a spade. I wonder God, if you'll take my hand. Somehow I feel that you'll understand. Funny I had to come to this hellish place, Before I had time to see your face. Well I guess there isn't much to say. But, I'm so glad God, I met you today. I guess the zero hour will soon be here. But I'm not afraid, since I know you are near. The signal! Well God, I have to go. I like you alot, this I want you to know. Look now, this will be a horrible fight. Who knows, I may come to your house tonight. Though I wasn't friendly to you before, I wonder God, if you'll wait at your door. Look, I'm crying. Me! Shedding tears! I wish I had known you these many years. Well, I have to go now, God, good-bye. Strange, since I met you, I'm not afraid to die. |

It is my understanding that many have turned to their maker when they feel like death is quickly approaching...even when it seems as if life has forsaken us ...even when we find ourselves in a position where death is imminent God will still be there for us...James |

~this brought tears to my eyes to say the least. this one is most definitely a forever keeper! i am saving this one in my folder of favorite poems. whomever wrote this deserves a standing ovation in my opinion, was written with such emotional intensity. god has a way of shining thru even in our darkest of hours and letting us know that yes everything will be "ok". take care! ~Amy~ ~Live today as though it were your last but prepare for tomorrow as though it were here~ |
