I Know You Through your Poetry

Your character is in the poem
Your face engraved upon the page
And deep within the lovely verse
The wisdom of a humble sage

Your honesty is in the words
Virtue in beliefs you’ve shown
Passion laced through woven phrase
And charm in charismatic tone

Heart of longing in the meter
Torn apart by win and lose
Contradiction speaks of unclear
Footpaths you may want to choose

Manners are forever present
Inbred gentlemanly grace
I know this from your poetry
Though I have never seen your face

Don’t ever mask the truth, my friend
It’s etched in ink with poet’s pen
I read your verse, and there you are
The clearest photograph by far

I enjoyed this very much.

Spectacular!  The lines "I read your verse, and there you are The clearest photograph by far" are exceedingly memorable.  Sometimes I think I should start a file of my favorite lines from my favorite poets!
I do have a file of favorite poems, though, and this surely will be in it.  Thank you for such a meaningful and beautiful one.

When I meet new people on line I always tell them "read my poetry it will tell you far more about me then I ever could"  This poem contains much truth, thanks for sharing

Excellent poem Liz...love the way you've described the feelings that we all as poets put into our work. This could have been written for anyone of us...the sex excluded I guess

What a wonderful poem... and I know the truth of your words, for I'll always remember how well you "read" someone dear to me. *S* We all show pieces of ourselves... you're an expert at seeing the whole.

L~
I think we all know you better through your poetry. Your style often reminds me of Emily Dickinson with the rhyme and meter. A charming poem, this one is a keeper.

Liz

This was simply beautiful! I never believed that saying "a picture can paint a thousand words" I believe that words when written with the heart (such as they are here at Passions) that shows more of a person's soul and heart than any picture could. you have captured some wonderful thoughts here, as only you can.

take care,
amy

Elizabeth, my dear lady~

Beautiful thoughts from a very
beautiful lady.
I would certainly hope that I'm 'read'
through what I write.  That would be a
great treasure to me.

I feel as though I also come to know others
through their work.
Thanks for sharing this gem.

Aimy, Marge and Sunshine,
You are right, it represents every single poet in Passions. And Marge, of anyone here at Passions, you are the best known, simply because your poetry just pours from your loving heart, and everybody feels it.
Thank you, sweet friends
