Like The Climbing Rose I have had my ups and downs, sometimes more down than up but rather than see the bleak in things I enjoy my half-filled cup. But let me tell you a little tale of the story of the climbing rose ‘twon’t be a very long story but this is how it goes….. She liked roses, fine and fair as they have a way of scenting air so climbing roses did she sow hoping they would soon to grow. She watered and she tended then carefully suspended her love around the bush. But sorrowfully, no growth. Rabbits came and nibbled like a puppy with its kibble so instead of growing, no the bush became a stick, just so. He looked about him with dismay went to her and he did say “I will get you another one today” silently she shook her head, nay. “If it is meant to be, dear heart, leave the rose base there in part; for if we should have roses fair, they’ll spring forth from that spot there.” Now he, no, he did not believe and figured after a year of no leaves she would ask him to plant once more, never for a moment figuring what there was in store. Winter came, cold, dank and blowing deep in slumber rose’s heart lay glowing, knowing that it had a gift to give knowing that it still had a life to live. That its dear lady did not tear it asunder, silently it waited for spring, then summer, first a leaf, and then some sprigs grew; she looked on, for the lady knew. For good things come when one will wait, it is not for us a time to dictate when things should happen before its time if you have faith, you’ll be fine… Just like the rose, which grew and grew, fragrant blood red roses, who knew? For it was not what was planted long ago it was supposed to be pink roses…so… 26 April, 2000 ©KRJ Sunshine Look, then, into thine heart, and write ~~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow |

Sunshine~ Such tenacity, the clinging rose. 'That its dear lady did not tear it asunder, silently it waited for spring, then summer, first a leaf, and then some sprigs grew; she looked on, for the lady knew A tender render with much wisdom. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

I have a climbing rose, and it seems the further you cut it back, the faster and fuller it grows, such a hardy plant. Would that we could always be that strong in times of trouble, holding on to that inner strength and never wavering from that path. This poem is wonderful and so close to my heart. Thank you for posting it Liz |
