The Dream Once upon a lonely night In glow of full moon’s silky white I sat in trembling fear of fright Of what would come to be I glanced at luna’s halo rim In pondering memories of him And in the midnight shadows dim I felt him close to me The moon was restless with my fears Kaleidoscoping through my tears As I recalled the numbered years Of sorrow dealt to me How can this be, awake from dream More true to real than it would seem My heart would laugh, but soul would deem It just a fantasy A dream, and yet a vision real With all the feelings I conceal And now awake I still can feel The power of the dream A quivering ring pierced through the night My heart danced wildly in fright The moon persistently cast light On this peculiar scene Who would call at midnight hour As bells chimed from the hill top tower Had God bestowed through dream the power This beckoning voice foresee I raised the phone to hesitant ear Still trembling in my midnight fear And in my head would solemn hear The voice from out my dream His sound like angel song became Out of the past spoke soft my name And all the fears were quickly tamed As he reached out to me Has God bestowed me life once more And joys my heart had known before Will I reach one more glimmering shore As he comes back to me I looked up at the smiling moon The glowing beams tried to consume It’s light with pleasure filled my room As he spoke soft to me I told him of the best of life And hid the worst of sorrow's strife And laughed with him at twists in life In all my ecstasy Then love still beating from within My heart confessed my love to him As sun was born of luna’s rim And woke me from my dream Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 04-26-2000).] |

I looked up at the smiling moon The glowing beams tried to consume It’s light with pleasure filled my room As he spoke soft to me I told him of the best of life And hid the worst of sorrow's strife And laughed with him at twists in life In all my ecstasy Then love still beating from within My heart confessed my love to him As sun became the luna’s rim And woke me from my dream --------------------- Liz... this is absolutely EXQUISITE!! the beauty of this poem takes me in... and while the visual imagery is perfect as always, it is the emotional imagery that is so apparent...they rise off the page as the reader rides along this poem. very strong written expression in this piece. take care my poetic friend, jm |

Liz...what a wonderful poem--and how sweet can be a much loved voice on the telephone, even in a dream. |

Liz, I know a lot about dreaming about love, and this touched me deeply. Great job. "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." -Oscar Wilde |

Janet Marie, So beautiful a response, I don't know how to respond! Except to thank you for your kind remarks. I think you make us all feel good with your loving words to all. Thank you Martie, I wish I did have dreams like this, but this was from my imagination, and considering I don't have much of one, it didn't come out too bad Thanks, dear Doreen, Wouldn't it be great? Thank you so much for reading so many of my poems. I appreciate your remarks Lovebug, I know that you know, and I always enjoy your input. Did you ever have a dream and then, half awake, finish it off the way you wanted it to come out? Thank you, sweetie Sy, This never happened, only the feeling of it. Thank you for the comment from one who knows Beki, I also wish I could have a dream like this. Thank you for you kind remarks Lizzie, I love the word "enchant", and if it does that, then wow! You make me happy. Now tell me, do you know what a lilac is? Terry, It is you who made my day with that second "enchant" Thank you Poet Femme, Thank you for that very nice compliment, I'm glad you enjoyed reading this Liz |

Liz, This poem perhaps has even deeper meanings than on the surface. It really was beautifully written and again a wonderful legacy to leave to your children. I felt like I was there in the dream. Love, Franni |

Just wanted to let you know that I enjoyed this as well, Liz. I kept thinking about "A Midsummer Night's Dream" while reading it, though your poetic gifting is a treasure far in and of its own. What a lovely, wistful poem! Meticulously worded, with a rhythm and rhyme to stay, singing in one's mind. What a wonderful love story! I've got to keep this one, to enjoy again and again! |
