War and Pieces ~~~ Of winters and of rain, Of troubles and of pain Of guilt and of shame Built across my name! I see lunatics run around the lanes, While the dogs lay their waste by the graves, The children of tomorrow stay on, Dreaming of yesterdays… What have we done? Why have we done what we did? Is what we are doing right? Why do we even bother to ask? "Shut up, you useless tramp, shut up" "Stop asking wasteful questions," a general screams, "This is for tomorrow's peace" "After all one has to pay today for tomorrow's sweet dreams!" Amidst the confusion, talking about peace, Going on is a war, breaking us piece by piece, While the leaders of the world do each day meet, Discussing all their shallow victories! It will not be long, Actually will be quite soon, That the warrior of today will turn Into tomorrow's goon! What have we done? Why have we done what we did? Is what we are doing right? Why do we even bother to ask? ~~~~~~~~ This was written during the war in Kosovo, Serbian atrocity prompted NATO forces to intervene. While the people suffered, plans were made and remade, decisions were taken and retaken, to what effect no one can know. Today the war seems to be over on the front...but the truth is that the war is still ringing its shadowy horns inside each of the person's head who lived through the time...and they still do suffer....what a waste!!! In a war, no one wins, all sides lose... Thanks in advance for reading. I hope you like the poem. Hey you, out there in the cold, Getting lonely, getting old, can you feel me? Hey you, standing in the aisle, With itchy feet and fading smile, can you feel me? Hey you, don't help them to bury the light. Don't give in without a fight. Hey you, out there on your own, Sitting naked by the phone, would you touch me? Hey you, with your ear against the wall, Waiting for someone to call out, would you touch me? Hey you, would you help me to carry the stone? Open your heart, I'm coming home.... by Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) - The Wall |

I have always found it amazing that others' economies spring forward when there are wars in places other than their own back yard. I also find it very hard to believe that God would want us fighting over his Son and religion itself...but we each must proclaim "our way is the right way..."? Oh God, if everyone could just find a way, and be happy with it! Well done, Sudhir! Sunshine ~~~Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow. Helen Keller ~~~ |

Thanks, Karilea, for reading and posting your well-perceived thoughts on the subject. Many a war are fought for a piece of land, but there are vultures that exist to earn their bread from the carcasses of the vanquished dead....I really end up depressed when I think of all this... Anyway, before I blow my top, let me thank you once again for your words... regards, sudhir. |

It is so easy to become disillusioned with man and all our faults. Well done, Sudhir. Some day ... maybe ... peace ... Best wishes, /Kit [This message has been edited by Kit McCallum (edited 06-07-2000).] |

Kit, Maybe one day..... I hope that is one day quite soon... Thanks for reading. Corazon, Thank You for reading. Must be a logic somewhere, musn't there be one? but it is more probable that this is just an ego-ride of the rulers of the land....thats utterly despicable and widely detestable... Thank you once again.... Many regards, Sudhir |

Shut up, you useless tramp, shut up" "Stop asking wasteful questions," a general screams, "This is for tomorrow's peace" " After all one has to pay today for tomorrow's sweet dreams!" this poem is quite haunting, it reminds me of a number of snap shots, or tv images of Kovoso, of chaos and destruction and the only thing that puts it into perspective so that we can process the information is the word "war" which is a safe word, we think it is just war, wars happen all the time. Without that word we would have to use words like tragedy and suffering and then we would really see the truth of the situation. Powerful and raw poetry. Really enjoyed this poem. ------------------------ "I've been too honest with myself I should have lied like everybody else"-Richey Edwards "Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints. Kill nothing but time". Baltimore Grotto "Libraries gave us power Then work came and made us free What price now for a shallow piece of dignity" Nicky Wire, A design for Life. manic street preachers "Rock 'n' roll is our epiphany Culture, alienation, boredom and despair" "To be nobody-but-yourself-in a world which is doing its best night and day, to make you everybody else - means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting." E.E Cummings. |

Brian, As usual, you have been very appreciative of my poem... I thank you for that extra bit of support I get from your words. Thanks. You are maybe right when you suggest that War is a word given as an excuse for many a tragedy... Thanks again, Sudhir. too much talking this morning, better get back to my pink floyd...
