The rusty tricycle lay at the curb
I wish a way I need not disturb
It’s my duty to collect and gather
No one asked what I’d really rather

It had bells and whistles, fire truck red
It lies for trash man, broken and dead
It used to circle the driveway in pride
By the little girl with rainbows inside

When time for her crib to go in my truck
I raised it with hopes and wished her good luck
When the box for tricycle one-day came due
How fast the baby into happy girl grew

Dream homes and dream cars their boxes came due
The tricycle circled the driveway too
She would wave to me and offer a smile
Honking her horn in little girl style

The trash man would never take her away
She was a jewel a present from God’s display
But the tricycle lay there a present for me
A sign said SOLD and no tire in oak tree

So saved from my truck tricycle I cherish
The little girl’s smiles never will perish
For they are hers and mine forever alive
My three-year-old daughter circles the drive

Walt, looks like you found something to write about eh? I well remember those days.
This is precious...and ya have to remember 'dad' to keep those boxes ya know. They have one heck of a time with those!
Put this one in the treasure box my friend!

Lovely, Walt!

And long after the bicycle has gone, you'll have your words to reflect upon!

love this, funny what is one's trash is another's treasure...my little one aquired a *car* (and lots of smiles to go with it) yesterday...missing the roof and one door (makes it easier to get in and out) but the gas tank, the trunk and all four wheels are fine...my son found it in the middle of the road...fell off of someones load to the trash....great poem walt
