She Stood In Splendor A barren, broken victim of romance Lay festering in unrepentant gloom. In agony he danced the devil's dance Confined within his self constructed tomb. And yet this tomb that held him so secure Was opened by what seemed an angel fair. A closer look at motives less than pure revealed their tarnished, self absorbing airs. 'Twas only then that fate did intervene, For there she was in splendor ever grand. His quest for love and hope for life serene, Then ended when he took her by the hand. She showed him all that love was meant to be And taught him how to love unselfishly. |

Absolutely incredible...do you have a sonnet making machine in your head? I've never seen anyone do them so perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. |

This is excellent. We often think our hearts are locked so tightly and then like smoke through the keyhole love slips in and we are engulfed when we least expect it. Thank you for sharing this. |

David, I have been following your work for some time now, and I must tell you that this ranks amongst your best. Although I have enjoyed all of your poems, your sonnets always affect me on the deepest level. They exhibit a depth, an intimacy that is rare indeed. Sonnet-writing is an art form, and it is obvious that you have mastered it. I look forward with anticipation to reading further beauties. emma |
