I often in my garden pray, When comes the night, and gone the day, In solitude; alone, by self, Forgotten vase on dusty shelf. Imploring God, to set me free, Lift my blinders, so I can see, Will I ever live a life, Ever be a loving wife? My father left when I was born, Raised by Momma, threadbare and worn, No friendships made, nor games to play, No time for fun, would Momma say. Was seventeen when came the stroke, Upon us both, life's cruel, cruel joke, An invalid, and I her nurse, Both confined, to God we curse. Am thirty-three, and Momma's dead, I found her here, as lay in bed, With mourners few, is laid to rest, A single rose, upon her breast. I sit alone in still of night, and feel the pain of sorrow's bite, In solitude; alone, by self, Forgotten vase, on dusty shelf. |

Mike~ So moving - so gentle is this piece. I'm caught in a sigh - of remembered goodbye. The 'forgotten vase upon dusty shelf' holds a little bit of self. When tender is the night - my tears are touched to fall. Thank you for this stirring reminder of one I lost. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

A sad poem, but not the end of the world, only the beginning of a new life. Time to dust off the vase and let its true beauty be seen. A very different theme, and well presented as usual Liz |

This tale is beautifully told and written with the empathy of a truly compassionate soul. Wonderful, Mike. ~ Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

Mike, this is such an empathetic look into another's soul and you display your own tender heart in the rendering...Exceptional, as always, my friend. |
