OF GOOD AND EVIL

Of Good and Evil come to me
By starry skies, by cryptic dreams,
I've played the Saint's role to a "T"
Though nothing there's sacred it seems.
As gentle hand, as healing touch
Once reached afar to ease this soul.
There, branded "Evil" for as much,
Was hate returned her love in whole.

Virtue upheld by God above,
One angel sweet, she played my pain.
In decorated guise of love
Slithering slow across the brain.
As, lost between the love of two,
I stood, the prize of evil "Good".
A razor tongue running me through
That suffering be all it should!

All voices fade, far distant now,
Of her, who but cherished my word.
Judgmental eyes never, somehow,
Realizing the truths she offered.
As "Good", now set to higher throne,
Lands me all shame in reprimand.
I grovel vacant streets, alone,
Bearing ever the Sinner's brand.

Watching empty words fill her screen,
In God's name, what she will not do.
Dark eyes given that lustful sheen,
Even marriage "Good" won't hold true.
Would that I were evil within,
Would I yet confuse truth with "Good"?
Or could I meet "true love" in sin,
That love in God be all it should?

For all behind was dark and drear,
And all before was night and fear.
How many hours of night or day
In those suspended pangs I lay,
I could not tell; I scarcely knew
If this were human breath I drew.

Lord Byron

damn your good.
way good.
way way good.
perfection from your poets pen.
strong words indeed.
much to read between the lines as well.

They are not measured by the commitment of time.
Some emotions run too deep to be described by words,
Forgiveness and understanding-remain the most beautiful words ever heard.

Oh, Michael, such pain here.  Wish we could wish it away for you, but only you can do that.

I also stand in awe, Michael.  You never dissapoint.  Extremely powerful, with so many images that evoke the struggle.  Another masterpiece indeed.

Brian, the conflicts of Good and Evil are stunning by their own account, me thinks.  I am always amazed at the actions people will take "in the name of God" or just how vain some poeple can be in their own self righteousness...

PdV, hehe - yeah, you do... but really I don't mind...LOL

Janet, there is indeed a story within a story here...  but even for those who do not know the whole of it - the moral is still the same, self-proclaimed goodness makes you no better than the next person in line - no matter what set of beliefs you live by.  And even should your beliefs be true and right, when your morality is not sound are you not worse of than one who might be misled, but true in heart?  I, myself, hurt one misled soul for the sake of one self righteous one, simply because of shared beliefs - rather than seeing the truth in heart... A mistake I will not make again.  See there, now you got me kicking out prose in the replies - i think it's contageous!!!

Amy, you see much in what is "not" said, I know...  I am glad the true meaning of this one came clear for you.

Lone Wolf, choices face us all, unfortunately too many times we make all the right choices for all the wrong reasons - and are only left with regrets, later.

Corinne, 'tis not so much a pain - but a dissension of sorts... "tis something I learn more of and accept moreover everyday..

Irish Rose, truly we could not have one without the other, I know... ultimately, I believe there has to be a balance of sorts...

Krista, I know you can relate to the "struggle" only too well, I'm glad you enjoyed this.

Thank you all for the kind replies,

Michael

Your work here is striking, Michael, but in the subtlety of what you elect "not" to write, much is said. Superbly shared, my friend...

Brilliant is what brilliance does,
Ever so shining bright
Good is what evil cannot do,
At the end of it all is a shining light.

However, one cannot have one without other!!!

Michael, you never fail me with your great skillful poetry...

Excellent writing, Michael. I think of all the 'evil' in the world none is as repugnant to me as the evil of self-righteousness because there is nothing redeemable in it at all. Those blinded by it are truly blind.
