My Lady of the GlenShe steps, shed from her skirts, upon the cool and glowing glen Tonight her treasures unspoiled by the hungry eyes of men She walks slowly, heels and toes sinking softly in the soil Her only chaperone, Darkness, offering nighttime's fragrant oil She allows the company, gladly as in night she now abides For daylight memories haunt her shadows shade her dreaming eyes She hears what others whisper how a woman of such grace should turn away the brutal night and share her pretty face But night is not her enemy nor is its coverlet always cold In earnest, night caresses soft what daylight used to hold For there were days behind her when love and laughter played and songs and straw hat Sundays brought joy to the home she'd made But days and nights churn onward and tumble, fruitless, through the years and shame and loss grow mightier than a young woman had ever feared And soon her life has passed her and all that now remains is a need to walk the glen at night in the peace that dark sustains ![]() |

That was quite beautiful, it has a classical feel to it, Excellent read Stunning images I really like the lines, "should turn away the brutal night and share her pretty face" "In earnest, night caresses soft what daylight used to hold" "But days and nights churn onward and tumble, fruitless, through the years" |

Excellent, exquisite, exceptional, yes they are.....but even these words don't seem to capture what I want to say about this! I am at a loss for words, Claire. I think this is now my favorite of yours to date. BRAVO! WELL DONE! And yes, I too, envy your writing ability! Denise |

Claire, this is wonderful, as always with you. I think I'll take a walk in the Glen tonight, and see what lovely beauty, is comforted by the moons soft light. Parker |

Brian, thank you. I enjoy classical poetry and do tend to write after its form and style. Janet, thank you, my friendly poetic peer...no envy need be necessary though. Denise, thank you very much. You know, I had not had time to really sit down to poetry for several days, and today I had to have something to take my mind from this house closing! I'm glad you like this one. ![]() Parker, thank you...I will be watching for you... ![]() Beki, awfully nice of you to read and let me know you enjoyed this...thank you. Terry, I'm glad you liked reading this, and thank you, in earnest, for letting me know. Thanks to all for such encouragement...it feels like I've just come home again... *sigh* ~ Claire |

What a wonderful scene you have created here. I can almost hear the cicadas singing and feel the dampness in the darkness of the night.....beautiful work, Claire. |

Claire~ There is a Victorian elegance about this piece. Such a lovely render that calls to mind the glen of enchantment. Sweet lady, this is so you. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Romantic, enchanting these are words that come to mind So full of feeling, hidden deep inside Beautiful the way you layed each line Exhilarating, sheer devine Claire if I wouldn't know better I would say, you have outdone yourself Bravo is all this humbled soul can say. (you) But I know, there is yet more to come The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools. |

Marge, you know, you say the nicest things...thank you for the smile you've given me this evening. LadySofia, awfully good of you to read and offer such kind commentary...thank you! stunningly beautiful, as always dear Claire. As your words work their magic intrigue fills the air. A hint of sweet scents and a lock of her hair I'll close my eyes now and forever be there. Thanks for a wonderful read. chris Never be a carbon copy of anybody...make your own impressions. - ANON. |

I do indeed bow to the fairest Lady of the Glen. . . a woman of true grace and passion. . . a woman who has known the light. . . and now embraces the dark. . . and communes with it. . . Claire, this is truly inspiring. . . methinks that your Lady of the Glen could inspire kings much as the Lady of the Lake did for Arthur. . . Truly superb my friend. . . -------------------------------------------------------------- That which gives light must endure burning --Victor Frankl |
