Promises

Throughout my life
I have kept promises
ne'er have I failed
if I can't keep them
I just don't make them

One person I must admit
I have failed with promises
with new year's resolutions
made, and I promptly forget

Yesterday I realized that
I am special, too
so today I know that
to myself, promises I make
will come true

ne'er will I break a promise
to myself again - for when
it comes to reality -
I am stuck with me 'til the end

Today is a special day
written promises to myself made
a glow of inner peace descends
as I treat myself as I do my friends

word of wisdom swan,
we have to like ourselves and be true to our selves before we can be true to others and get that back from them.
well written and thought out piece here,

It took me awhile before I could even utter those words let alone believe them.
