BEYOND THE STORM Tattered and torn, ragged and bent. Emotionally worn and spent. I ride this storm, this endless sea Of deepest blue melancholy. My vessel, shorn, an aging wreck, I yet lead on from haunted deck By a light in darkness seeming, Past all points of human deeming. Driven on by maddening force, Search I this grim and ghastly course. Hearing whispers upon each wave Of ocean now an endless grave. Between memory and repose Of the sweetest virgin white rose, Her sultry voice still calls to me Lures me further unto the sea. As heaven hides the blackened sky, As every wish befalls a sigh. And every star once shone afar Merely holds now a sightless scar. Cobwebs form here upon the eyes Of darkling death in whispered lies, As all now know the Specter's wail But dare not chance me from the gale. Yet from this Tempest of Dark Fate Have I seen past this Mystic gate. And from swirling seas of Despair Can I see Truth awaits me there. For Life is bold, for Love is warm Shall I not drown amidst this storm, But by very wings Hope flies on Shall I grace the New Horizon. I see hope creeping in, Michael, ever so slowly, makes me happy to see that. Corinne |

Michael~ This is just a stirring piece of work. An art form such as this is proof of the immense talent you possess. I'm very fond of the easy melodic flow with which this one sings. Nice job, my friend. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

"I ride this storm, this endless sea Of deepest blue melancholy. My vessel, shorn, an aging wreck, I yet lead on from haunted deck ..." Quite an image here, m'friend -- chilling and tinged slightly with desperation ... Not sure what the challenge was -- something about "New Horizons?" Either way, I enjoyed ... ![]() --Me Full fathom five thy father lies, Of his bones are coral made, Those are pearls that were his eyes; Nothing of him that doth fade But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange... --William Shakespeare, from The Tempest |

CSwtThng, TY - glad you enjoyed. Jeffrey, Well keep the challenges coming - I'm still lacking inspiration over here... Corinne, Looking past the storm that seems to encircle was indeed the first step. Long ways to go though. Marge, that's quite a compliment - TY very much. Janet, I am starting to believe in my own strength again, that was the point of the poem. I can see my way out for the first time in (seems like forever)... I can see what's been holding me back clearly now too. Just a note, the new horizon I seek is not joy within another - but joy within myself - only in finding this will life be bold or love be warm. Kess, the desperation I tried to show stems from where I felt I was - being sucked down by a circling storm. The image I had hoped to leave here was one of personal triumph being achievable - no matter what you are confronted with... Ah, yes the word is "Hope". Glad you enjoyed though. Denise, Indeed. Thank you all for the kind replies. Michael |

Michael, You far exceeded the challenge in my opinion!! I hope you reach the peak of the new horizon and find that happiness. Really love the last stanza. So true...we must look ahead to put the past behind us so that we may move on. Excellent!! ![]() LW |

Michael* This challenge brought out a beautiful side of you a side of hope that often eludes you in your writing, the saddness and pain are often there for us to call on but to find the hope within the pain is a leap of faith...I see you have a flair for that as well...not that I had any doubts in your talents but you blew me away with this, you leap so well ![]() |

Michael, I swear to the heavens above that our feelings are linked. Just when I've begun to trust my own strength again, it appears that you are doing the same. Stunning poem, complete with the dark desperation and the feeling of hope, both of which I can closely relate to. I wish you the best and remember to hold on to that strength. It's always there if you learn to look deep enough for it. ![]() *Krista Knutson* ~We are only truly lost when we have lost ourselves~ |

This challenge hit me like a ton of bricks. After just returning from the ocean, the first glimpse of the horizon over the water, and my life....where are the words and how in the world did you compose such a masterpiece? The only thing missing is the frame. Well, it truly doesn't need one. It's tremendous. Kathleen [email protected] |

As always, perfection. I think in the great book of poetry, your name and photo is going to be next to that word - perfection: see Michael Anderson. Beautiful! |
